UBOS Unveils Statistical Release Calendar to Guide National Planning

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has announced a statistical dissemination calendar that will guide the release of key reports from recently completed surveys and censuses, aimed at informing planning and decision-making across the country.

Speaking to the media, UBOS Public Relations Officer Didacus Okoth said the calendar will take effect this month and run through May 2026, after which the bureau will provide further guidance on subsequent releases.

Okoth explained that UBOS regularly conducts national censuses and surveys to generate reliable statistics that guide government policies and public programmes.

“As you may be aware, the bureau routinely conducts censuses and surveys. Many of us are familiar with the Population and Housing Census, which was successfully conducted with the support of the media and the public, and the report was later published,” Okoth said.

He noted that the dissemination calendar is intended to prepare the country to receive important statistical findings from completed studies.

According to UBOS, the first report under the new calendar will be released on March 12, 2026. This will be the Uganda Malaria Indicator Survey report, which will provide insights into malaria prevalence and control measures in the country.

The survey was launched in December 2024 by the Minister of Health and involved data collection across different parts of the country to assess the scale of malaria and the effectiveness of existing interventions.

Okoth said the report will provide detailed statistics on malaria trends and government efforts aimed at reducing the disease burden.

“We all know that malaria remains one of the leading causes of death in Uganda. The report will give more details about its prevalence, causes and the control measures that have been put in place,” he said.

The report will be launched at Statistics House in Kampala and is expected to be attended by senior government officials, including the Ministers of Health and Finance, permanent secretaries and development partners.

Other statistical reports will also be released later in the month. On March 19, UBOS will publish the Orphans and Other Vulnerable Children Census Monograph, which is based on findings from the 2024 National Population and Housing Census.

The report focuses on children who face challenges accessing essential services due to lack of parental care or other vulnerabilities.

UBOS will also release the Multidimensional Poverty Index Census Monograph on March 26. The report measures poverty beyond income by examining different aspects of people’s living conditions.

Okoth said the findings from these reports will help policymakers and development partners design programmes that respond to the needs of different communities.

He urged stakeholders to make use of the data once the reports are released to support evidence-based decision-making in the country.
